Whirlpool Pump Replacement
Please print this so you can work and read along!
The following depicts the layout of an older model (pre-1984) Whirlpool or Kenmore washer.
The water pump has two bolts which hold it against the transmission. There are also two or three hoses attached, depending on model.
Just remove both bolts and both hoses. The pump can be pried out from under the belt with a turn. Reassemble in reverse order, making sure to get the pump actuator arm inthe slot on the agitate cam so it will shift properly!

On newer Whirlpool and Kenmores with the direct drive transmission, the job is much simpler. Just remove the bottom panel and this is what you will see:
This pump really need no tools to remove, but you can use a screwdriver and pair of pliers to assist you if necessary. Just pop the two clips off of either side of the pump. Then remove the big bands from the hoses. Slide the hoses up out of the way, and the pump will then slide forward with a firm tug. Reassemble in reverse order, taking care to align the flat on the motor shaft with that of the new pump.
